Policies and Procedures
Drop Off and Dismissal Procedures
While parents are encouraged to use the school bus for transporting their children to and from school, we realize that it is sometimes necessary to drop off and/or pick up your child in person. To this end, there are procedures that should be followed.
Drop Off
A drop off lane is provided for parents. It is not a parking lane. If you need to come into the school with your child, you must park in one of the designated parking spaces.
Any child that is dropped off in the morning, will have to wait outside until 8:25am before being allowed to go to his/her classroom. Please be advised that there is no supervision provided until 8:25 am.
**Walkers are also encouraged to arrive by 8:25
Dismissal
If your child normally takes the bus and you know ahead of time that you will be picking him/her up from school, write a note to the teacher stating that fact. Your child will be dismissed through the front lobby doors when called at dismissal time.
If you have not sent in a note ahead of time, you must sign out a student prior to 3:20 if they want them dismissed early from school. After that they will be dismissed via the intercom for parent pick up at 3:40.
For example, a student whose parent signs them out at prior to 3:20, will be called immediately for dismissal as opposed to waiting until 3:40.
Please remember: If a parent has sent a note in to pick up a student at dismissal, the student will be dismissed through the front lobby doors at 3:40 with their grade level walkers and pick-ups.
Staff members will be in the lobby to ensure that parents are able to sign out their child in a safe manner.
A Walker is a designation given by Transportation to children who live in close proximity to Tinc Road School and are, therefore, not assigned a bus.
Delayed Openings/Early Dismissals
On designated half days, dismissal time is 12:50 pm. For emergency closings and delayed openings, see page 22 of the Calendar and Parent Handbook.
Buddy Program
All new students will be assigned a classroom buddy to help acquaint him/her with routines, procedures and general "getting to know you" advice. The buddy will provide the new student with a student's tour of the school and present him/her with a welcome bag. New students' names will be welcomed during morning announcements and invited to visit with the guidance counselor for a brief orientation.
Friday Folders
Friday folders are sent home every Friday or the last day of the school week. They contain all correspondence that the school wishes the parent to read. Report cards, weekly progress reports, communications regarding community opportunities, letters from the principal plus any papers that the teacher may wish signed.
Homework Policy
Homework is any work the student is required to do outside of class. The purpose of homework is:
a. to reinforce skills and concepts learned in the classroom
b. to extend skills through long term projects
c. to develop responsibilities, organizational skills and study habits
The following time allotments for homework are recommended with the understanding that they may be adjusted to fit the needs of the student:
a. K-2 15-30 minutes per day
b. 3-5 30-60 minutes per day
In addition to homework assignments, there are times when work, which is not completed in class, is sent home to be completed. If a child does not have a specific assignment, the recommended homework times may be used for pleasure reading, newspaper reading or drawing.
Classroom Visitations
Any visit to the classroom must be arranged with the classroom teacher. All visitors to the building, including parents who have made arrangements with the classroom teacher, must sign in at the main office and obtain a visitor's pass before going to the classroom.
Before & After School Care
There is a before and after school program available at Tinc Road School. Managed by AlphaBest Education, parents may enroll their children in both sessions or just one.
