Club information sheets are posted in the cafeteria describing each club. Clubs will begin by the first week of October.
Students must then listen to morning announcements and read the bulletin board in the cafeteria for meeting times and dates.
To participate in Intramural Sports, students must get a sports physical. The school doctor will perform physicals for students interested in joining an intramural sport at various times throughout the year. Please refer to information sent home by our school nurse for specifics.
Transportation is provided for students involved in activities at 4:15 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The 4:15 p.m. buses depart from the Main Entrance. All students must have a "Late Bus Pass" to ride the bus. Passes are distributed by their advisor. If parents have not picked up students by 4:15 p.m., the student must take the bus home.
This club is designed for students interested in gaining exposure and experience through various mediums and techniques used in art. As a group, students will collaborate and decide what projects they would like to work on. Students will also work on some projects that have themes. Students will be able to take their passion for Art to the next level.
Students with a desire to serve the interest of their community should consider joining this club. Community Service assists organizations in need of help. Trips include St. Francis Elderly Residential Center, Mt. Olive Child Learning Center, and more.
This half year (Jan - May) club provides students with the opportunity to learn correct debate form, as well as research skills and delivery. Topics are researched and speeches are written and delivered to an audience. High scoring teams are entered in the Morris County Debate Competition.
Each year the Mount Olive Middle School Drama Club presents a major "Broadway" Musical. "Annie", "Guys and Dolls" and the "Music Man" have all graced the stage of our beautiful state-of-the-art theatre. The club meets from January to May after school, two days a week for auditions and rehearsals.
G & T Art Club
This club is designed for students who have been identified as Gifted and Talented in Art. Students will work independently to create works of art with their own choice of media and subject matter. Students will have the opportunity to have their work displayed at the annual Morris County Teen Arts Festival held in the spring. Students will be invited to attend a trip to the Teen Arts festival to view the student artwork displayed from various middle schools and high schools in Morris County.
Games Club II (Chess)
Students will learn the basic rules of chess along with different strategies used to gain an advantage over opponents. The club will include competition against other students within the middle school and possibly other schools. The club meets once per week October through May.
The Geography Club is designed to teach students about geography and the world around them. Students will explore countries, cultures, and curiosities of our world. By doing so, this will help prepare students for the annual National Geographic Geography Bee that they will be competing in as a member of the club.
Students who are struggling to meet the demands of their academic classes have the opportunity to receive support and assistance with their homework during these after school sessions. Most Homework Clubs are facilitated by one of the teachers on the child's team.
Mount Olive Middle School offers an extensive intramural program for both boys and girls. Boys' and girls' intramurals are conducted as co-ed. Activities include: basketball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, kickball, whiffle ball, ping pong, etc. Students wishing to participate in a fun and pleasurable sports activity are encouraged to attend any or all activities.
This club is for those students who enjoy the challenge of math. Members are trained to be "Mathletes" and prepare for a mathematical competition called "Math Counts", sponsored by the Association of American Engineers. The club meets once a week from October through May.
The Media Center is open three days a week after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for students who need to do research, use computers, finish projects, etc. Students can also get replacement identification card pictures at a nominal fee. Students working in the Media Center on Wednesdays must be picked up by 4:10 PM. There are no late buses on this day.
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society is an organization which recognizes excellence. The purpose of the Mount Olive Middle School chapter of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of our school. Membership is open to those 7th and 8th grade students whose completed portfolios have been judged excellent by the 5 members of the Mount Olive Middle School NJHS Faculty council.
Students taking Robotics will design and build a robot using the Lego Mindstorm Kit. The Robot designers follow through by programming their Robot to perform specific tasks and then compete against other student robot designers. The club meets for three, eight-week sessions, one session per grade level. Due to the overwhelming number of students interested and the number of available robots, spots in the Robotics Club will be determined by lottery. The Club will meet in three sessions by grade level.
The Student Council is a service club that works to provide the student body with activities and events throughout the year. School elections, dances, spirit days, leadership training, community service and fund-raising are all activities sponsored by our Student Council.
Theatre Tech Club
Students participating in this club will be exposed to all the facets of theatrical productions. They will learn to operate some of the most sophisticated sound and lighting equipment in the field. Students will also be responsible for supporting the annual middle school production in the areas of sound and lighting.
Students will assist the advisors with photography and layout throughout the year, which will ultimately result in a final publication. Students will also assist with selling and distribution of the yearbook at the end of the school year.
