Mount Olive AFJROTC Cadets Selected for Prestigious Cyber Academy
Tatiana Mejia and Tania Syed, both 11th grade Air Force Junior ROTC cadets at Mount Olive High School have received scholarships to participate in the Air Force Junior ROTC Cyber Academy during the summer of 2022. The scholarships are funded through a partnership between Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC and the National Science Foundation.
Tatiana and Tania are two of 132 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from around the world to receive this scholarship. There are more than 125,000 high school students enrolled in Air Force Junior ROTC at almost 900 high schools in the U.S. and overseas. The scholarship funds a six week, three credit hours college course and is valued at approximately $8,500.
The Cyber Academy Scholarship Program is designed to generate interest in a vital and valuable skill set that is lacking in our country. Cadets will be engaged in daily coursework, homework, discussions, and have opportunities to hear from prominent Cyber/IT professionals. The program will also provide cadets an opportunity to test for Cyber or IT industry certifications. Those who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force or other branches of service, nor does completing the program signify acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs.
The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community, while instilling values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and sense of accomplishment. When looking to fill tomorrow’s career needs with the best candidates, there is simply no better place for the nation to look than Air Force Junior ROTC!
Congratulations Tatiana and Tania! Our AFJROTC unit, school, and community are very proud of your selection and we wish you all the best this summer!
